Gracianie Jeune

Counseling Coordinator Haiti

The families Hope Walks serves in Haiti often view the staff and parent advisors as an extension of their own families. This is one of the things that gives Gracianie the greatest joy. She has worked for Hope Walks since 2014 and holds a master’s degree in Financial Analysis and holds a license in Accounting. In her spare time, Gracianie enjoys learning new languages, especially English.

About the Country

The most impoverished country in the Western Hemisphere, Haiti is located in the Caribbean Sea. A massive earthquake in 2010, killing about 200,000 people, caused increased devastation to this small nation. Another magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred this year on August 14 killing more than 2,000 people. This natural disaster was preceded by the assassination of its president on July 7.

Aid to Haiti is extremely difficult due to widespread violence, crime, political instability, and a population which is mostly illiterate. Most of the population is unemployed or underemployed, meaning they either cannot get enough work or are underpaid for the work they do.

About 75% of Haitians have professed Christ, most of these individuals being Roman Catholic. Even with this large number of Christians, voodoo and other West African witchcraft practices are widely exercised in Haiti. There is opportunity for growth of the church in Haiti, and creative alternatives to reach people has helped this, including radio and ministry training.

Prayer Needs

We pray for continued healing amongst the people of Haiti. Please pray for Haitian families seeking clubfoot treatment for their children to continue to go to appointments as poverty can greatly hinder and discourage these families. We also ask God for safety for our staff in Haiti.
